Economy Sanger has a diverse economy with production of bank equipment, plastic molding, paper products, fertilizer spreaders, sheet metal, and cabinets are manufactured in the community. Wal-Mart regional distribution center is largest employer and was the pilot location for the radio frequency identification product tagging designed to improve distribution.
The current unemployment rate for DFW area is 4.6% (12/05 U.S. Department of Labor). The gross sales in Sanger in 2004 were $2,057,524,125. The City of Sanger works with businesses to determine incentives to encourage new business location and maintain existing businesses. The City of Sanger and Denton County have adopted the Freeport Exemption which exempts certain business personal property from ad valorem taxes. Goods, wares, merchandise, other tangible personal property, and ores (other than oil, natural gas and other petroleum products) are exempt from ad valorem taxation if: · the property is acquired in or imported into the state to be forwarded outside the State; and · the property is detained in the State for assembling, storing, manufacturing, processing, or fabricating purposes by the person who acquired or imported the property; and · the property is transported outside the State not later than 175 days after the date the person acquired or imported the property in the State. Sanger has a sense of community with a historic downtown and vintage homes, new housing developments, two parks, a public library, and a weekly newspaper. Area Information Sanger is the gateway to Lake Ray Roberts a 30,000-acre reservoir. The Ray Roberts Lake State Park Complex consists of Isle du Bois and Johnson Branch state parks, and six satellite parks including the Marina. The park entrance count in 2005 at Isle du Bois was 113,375. Area attractions include wildlife management areas, wetlands, waterfowl sanctuaries and the 20 mile Ray Roberts Lake/Lake Lewisville Greenbelt Corridor. Bird watching, water sports, riding horses or backpacking along a scenic trail, Ray Roberts has something for everyone. The Lake Ray Roberts Marina at the Sanger Unit is a full-service marina with 36,600 vehicle count in 2005.
